TWO SCARY PARTIES

  • TWO SCARY PARTIES
Halloween and the Day of the Dead are two scary celebrations, is it?

THE ORIGIN OF HALLOWEEN HOLIDAY

Trick or treating? Halloween is a very popular party in the United States, Ireland, Scotland and other countries in Great Britain and has become very well known throughout the world with American cinema.

But do you know where the date comes from? There are other versions of the beginning of Halloween celebrations.

One is pagan. According to traditions, Halloween started with the Celtic festival “Samhain”, between 600 BC and 800 AD, in Ireland and Scotland. The festival celebrated the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter. It was believed that, during Samhain, the souls of the dead returned to visit their relatives and seek food.

According to the Christian version, the party celebrated the eve of “All Saints” day, November 1. So, October 31st was a date of preparation and vigil for the celebration of “All Saints”. Many Christians still observe this custom.

What are the current Halloween traditions? In addition to dressing up in costumes and decorating the houses with lanterns made with pumpkins, the children go out in the neighborhood to ask for sweets, "treats or treats".

Young people and adults alike have fun during the holiday with guessing games, visits to “haunted” houses, as well as telling scary stories or watching horror movies.

DAY OF THE DEAD, MEXICAN INDIGENOUS PARTY

The celebration of the dead is one of the most traditional festivals in Mexican culture. At three thousand years old, the wounded has its origin among the indigenous peoples: Aztec, Mayans, purépechas, nauatles and totonacas. In this way, these populations guarded the skulls of their dead ancestors, which they displayed and celebrated during the rituals of the day of the dead.

How do they work today? The festivities begin on October 31 and end on November 2, coinciding with two Christian holidays: All Saints and All Souls. With much excitement, the Mexicans and Mexicans believe that the dead are allowed to return to the land to visit their families on days 1 and 2.

In order to receive loved ones who once were, people prepare the favorite dishes of the dead. In addition, the houses are decorated with flowers and candles. There is a lot of food, music and sweets and people make painted skull masks. Some families also have small parties in the cemeteries.
